Rachel Skarsten, born Rachel Marie Alice Skarsten on April 23, 1985, is from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She has a younger brother, Jonathan Skarsten, with whom she is very close to and regards as her best friend. Rachel danced at the Royal Academy of Dance for 12 years and earned an Elementary Level with distinction in 1999. After an ankle injury, she was forced to give up dance and turned to competitive female hockey, playing as a goalie for the Leaside Wildcats. In 2002, she won the Toronto City Championships in a shootout.
Rachel is best known for her role as the Black Canary/Dinah Lance, a role she won at the age of 17 in the WB TV series "Birds of Prey." After the show was canceled, she took a hiatus from acting and moved from Los Angeles to back home. She graduated high school at the top 10% of her class and went on to complete a double major in English Literature and Classical History at the prestigious Canadian Queen's University. After graduation, she went backpacking around Western Europe for four months with her friends. She moved back to Los Angeles in 2008. Rachel currently stars in the hit TV show "Lost Girl" as Tamsin, a mysterious Valkyrie with a dark past.
